Casino Crime Report: Florida Police Involved Shooting

A man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly tried to run over a Florida police officer near the Seminole Classic Hollywood Casino. Authorities said the officer fired at the suspect, but he was not injured.

The unnamed Seminole police officer was in a parking lot near the casino on a medical assistance call around 7 a.m., according to Florida television station WTVJ.

There appears to be a confrontation between the officer and the suspect, Solomon Eugene Terry, 26.

Terry then allegedly “used his vehicle as a weapon” against the officer, according to police. It appears that the officer feared for her life, so she fired one shot in Terry’s direction.

Terry then jumped out of the car and ran from the parking lot south of the casino.

The female officer was not injured.

Suspect arrested

Police sent a helicopter, police dogs and officers wearing tactical gear to search for Terry, according to Florida television station WPLG.

About 90 minutes later, officers arrested him in an industrial area. He was handcuffed and detained.

Terry was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. His case was transferred to the local prosecutor’s office.

Terry has not yet entered any plea to the charge. If the case goes to trial, and he is convicted, he could face years in prison.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and Hollywood Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Previously, in an unrelated case, Terry was charged with aggravated battery, shooting into an occupied building, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and carrying a concealed firearm in 2018.

He pleaded no contest in the case last year, according to the filing South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Florida authorities confiscate gambling machines

A raid Wednesday on an alleged illegal gambling operation led to the arrest of two suspects at a Florida gaming parlor.

Computers, more than 60 slot machines and cash were seized during a court-ordered search of the Moonlight Express corridor located in Roseland, Florida. The business was closed by local deputies.

The gambling raid was conducted by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Gaming Control Commission.

Officials had warned the arcades to stop illegal gambling. But authorities said the company had temporarily halted illicit operations to start over.

Officials said the gambling operation created a risk of related crimes.
